HDD Data Recovery
Hard drives are the most common data carriers in computers, laptops and servers. HDD production technology is constantly evolving, increasing areal density and speed. With that the quality leaves much to be desired. Hard drive manufacturers do their best to increase the durability and reliability of data storage, but the "Achilles' heel" of all hard drives is the mechanic part.
Our company offers a full range of data recovery from hard drives (HDD). Our data recovery center has specialized equipment and a large number of donor drives. Our engineers have working experience in data recovery and hard drive repair since 2002. The service is provided only for legal entities.
Typical Failure of Modern HDD
- Destruction of proprietary information is the result of failure in HDD software, poor connections, bad power supply, or damage to the platter magnetic layer.
- Failure of the electronics board (controller) occurs primarily during power failure or incorrect HDD connection. Combo drive chips (for motor control) often fail as well.
- Damage to HDD head assembly and preamplifier/commutator circuit. Such failure may occur due to the heads’ impact on the surface of magnetic platters or head assembly sticking. The commutator may fail during a power failure.
- Mechanical damage: destruction of platter surface (BAD blocks), motor seizure, sticking of magnetic heads. It may occur due to improper operation, production defect, or because of the great wear on the drive.
Separate data recovery from a failed hard drive can result in permanent loss of your files.
Data Recovery on HDD with the Destroyed Service Area
The hard drive is not detected in the BIOS or detected wrong, with that the hard drive may make uncharacteristic noises or knocking. HDD can also be defined correctly, but user data are not available, a system with such a hard drive will not boot.
Restoring the hard drive in this case is to restore the data of HDD service area. These works are carried out on the PC-3000 stand in the technological modes of the hard drive. A particular challenge for data recovery in such cases is the destruction of the HDD (translator) defect matrix.
Data Recovery with Faulty Controller
When this fault occurs, the hard drive is knocking, not detected in the BIOS or no signs of life.
Restoring the hard drive performance is to replace or repair the controller and sometimes requires hard drive controller firmware upgrade. After replacing the controller, the data is transferred to a faultless hard drive.
HDD Recovery in the Event of Head Assembly Fault
In this case, the HDD often knocks or makes sounds like grinding, the drive is not detected in the BIOS. There are occasions when one or more magnetic heads fail, than the hard drive can be detected in the BIOS, but the data are read in part.
To restore the hard drive requires opening the HDA and the replacement of the magnetic heads with the donor (the same HDD). Data extraction is made using the complex Data Extractor.
After recovery and data transfer, both the "patient" and donor are not subject to repair and use.
Data Recovery in the Presence of BAD Blocks
When this fault, as a rule, the operating system no longer boots, certain files or folders are not read, and the hard drive may make shuffling sounds.
Data recovery occurs by a method of sector transfer to another HDD using the Data Extractor software and hardware, which in many cases allows you to extract data with a significant share of bad sectors. Then, the data recovery occurs in software.
Data Recovery in the Event of Motor or Head Assembly Seizure
When the motor/head assembly seizure, the hard drive does not spin that can cause burnout of the combo drive chip. Also, the magnetic hard drive surface is usually destroyed.
Motor seizure is eliminated through its repair or transplantation of pancakes on a faultless drive. In the case of head assembly sticking, the HDA is opened and heads are removed in the parking zone. After that, a copy is made on a faultless hard drive using the complex Data Extractor.
HDD is not subject to operation, and its repair is not possible.
