Data recovery from flash drives

Data recovery from flash drives, USB flash drives, flash data mediums and SD memory cards.

Nowadays the portable data mediums are becoming really popular: USB Flash, Compact Flash (CF), Memory Stick (MS), Secure Digital (SD), Multi Media Card (MMC), Smart Media (SM), xD-Picture Card (xD). Most users call these devices flash drives. They are known for their small size, low price, wide use, easy connection and large memory volume.

Flash drives have one significant disadvantage - limited number of writing cycles. Due to this fact, USB flash drives have excessive number of data blocks which replace the data blocks that have used up their writing cycle resources.

Main reasons for flash drive malfunctioning:

  • Drive controller malfunction.
  • Destruction of service information, translators, ...
  • NAND memory microchip malfunction.
  • Physical damage of the flash drive.
  • Destruction of the file system structure.

The most common reasons for flash drive controller being fried is an electrostatic discharge, incorrect connection to the USB socket, power problems. When the drive controller is fried, any access to the contents of the flash drive microchips becomes impossible. When such a drive is connected, it may be discovered in the list of devices, but there will be no access to the logical disk. If there was any important information left on this flash drive, data recovery cannot be avoided.

Temporary power outages and interferences can lead to failure during data writing on the memory microchips, resulting in disruption in the translator’s logical structure, which also makes data access impossible.

When the NAND memory microchips malfunction, data recovery becomes impossible.

If there is a damage to the USB socket or controller body, the flash drive should not be connected to the computer. This may cause the controller microchips and the flesh drive itself to be completely fried, and also result in malfunctioning of the south bridge on the computer motherboard, which not only will make it impossible for you to recover data from the flash drive, but will also require additional repair of the computer.

The common reason for data loss on the memory card is accidental deletion of files by the user in the process of viewing photographs on the camera.

How the data recovery process happens on the flash drive and the memory card:

  1. Using the soldering station, all the NAND memory microchips are unsoldered.
  2. Data from the microchips is read using a special flash-reader.
  3. When necessary, it is needed to get rid of data mixing.
  4. A special software application is used to collect the disk image from the user data.
  5. User files are copied onto a non-faulty data medium.

Recovery of deleted files and files from malfunctioned mediums is possible! You need to contact the specialists!
